- Aims and Purpose of the Units:
Unit 1: This unit aims to extend learners’ ability to select and visually record from a range of sources in order to
communicate information to different audiences, using appropriate presentation methods and for a range of specific purposes.Unit 1 Grading Criteria:Overview:
- This brief provides the framework for your own project. It allows you to explore, apply and realise
your design skills in the generation of a range of visual outcomes. Your project must address all of the learning outcomes for Unit 1 and you must be specific in
what you aim to produce in order to meet each of these requirements.It is essential that you make an effort to fill your sketchbook with: development work, planners, time management, activities,
problems and solutions including the logging of information from briefings, critiques and discussions with staff and peers.
This is your brief and you are responsible for your approach to it - you can seek advice but must not
expect it continually. The project is to be undertaken in a mature manner and must be independently directed.
Staff input will be available to guide you on what to do, but you will be expected to supply your own materials.The project lasts for 11 weeks and it is to be marked against all of the pass, merit and distinction criteria for Unit 1.Although you will be working on most of the Tuesday mornings for term 1,
you will also need to work on it during self-directed study on other non-timetabled days.Submission Requirements:
1. Create a sketchbook of various visual recordings using both hand generated image making and screen shots of on screen digital image making, with on-going annotations and a final project evaluation.
2. Create an A3 poster of your best visuals, photographs and designs. Print and mount it onto A2 card.

To establish an understanding of the wider contextual influences which graphic designers can and should utilise in order to develop and extend their personal & professional influences.To instigate an understanding of the project and a working knowledge of the limited time in which the unit must be achieved.To develop an awareness of the opportunities of the Unit and to generate curiosity for the possibilities of the Project.
- Learning Objectives for this session:1. All students must undertake a purposeful investigation into the subject of architecture.2. All students should generate a range of (primary and secondary source) visuals of architecture and written notes on the subject.3. All students could capture photographic or hand drawn images on the College grounds.

- Learning Objectives for this session:1. All students must design their name on the front of the sketchbook in a typographically mature and creative way.2. All students should generate a title page on the inside of the sketchbook, which names the project.3. All students could use the available ipads or their own smart phones to research architecture, buildings and landscape.

WEEK 3
- Aims and Outcomes:To have discovered, reviewed and collated imagery and notes about architecture.To have gained insight, understanding and experience of how the work of others in a different creative specialism can be a direct or in-direct influence.To have constructed architectures based visuals using 2D stencil and card construction methods.
- Learning Objectives for this session:1. All students must conceive and generate initial ideas and images by employing a range of creative image capture methods and experimental visualisation techniques.2. All students should Interpret the information, opinions and findings they have collated in order to understand the factors which may, could and should influence their design decisions.3. All students could stop at appropriate times and annotate their work in a clear and legible manner.
- Self-directed study to complete between now and next Tuesday:Create sketches, capture photographs, collect research of buildings and architecture. Make handwritten notes about your work (annotations) to describe what you have done and to evaluate how well the images look in your opinion. Make handwritten notes about the work of other people (annotations) to describe why you have selected the images and to say why you like it.

To have generated some final architecture visual recordings using primary or secondary sources.To have taken part in a whole group exercise in which everyone plays a part in everyone else's learning.To have worked with your peers to discover the best methods of digital image manipulation.To have begun to create an architectural poster using Adobe Photoshop. - Learning Objectives for this session:1. All students must select and digitally capture (scan or photograph) 3-4 pieces of their own work to make their individual posters.2. All students must begin to construct a poster using Adobe Photoshop manipulation and adjustment methods and techniques.3. All students should Include both hand generated images and digitally generated images.4. All students could evaluate the project in an individual, thorough and self-reflective manner.
